What is Under the Oak?

To mark the 800th anniversary year of the first Rector of St Peter and St Paul, Abington, we will be planting an oak tree in Abington Park, but we believe that God is calling us to do much more.

In some African communities, whenever there is a matter to be discerned, the people gather beneath a tree to talk, pray and explore the way forward.  We will be drawing upon this model as we reflect on God’s work in Abington throughout the last 800 years, and gaze forwards to God’s future vision for us.

Bishop Andrew Proud will be leading us across six sessions as we sit ‘under the oak.’  Through prayer, studying Bible passages and working together, we seek to discover what God’s promises hold for us; helping us to discern what God is calling us to do and who God is calling us to be.

Whether you have been in Abington for years, or have just arrived, whether you come to church every week, or just now and then, and whether you can attend once, or come to all of the sessions, a warm welcome awaits.

We look forward to exploring the future with you!
